Aubussargues has a distant past, and we can still find prehistorical traces, as well as a Roman oppidum. Its name comes  from Albucius, Roman politician and philosopher, born in 106 before JC : Villa Albussanicis in 1381 and Albusanicae in 1384, and finally Aubussargues in 1547. Today, there are 300 inhabitants, which is about the same as 168 years ago. The castle, or Seigniory, with its slate towers, overlooks the village. The many small, narrow alleyways also bear witness to the past.

Over the centuries, Le Mas des Sages has successively been a wine farm and a silk culture. When mildew hit the vineyards in the years 1870, the farmers went from Aubussargues to Smyrna on horseback, to get silkworms. Back home, they educated the silkworms and produced silk for many years.
