Call

We, Esther and Philippe, are a Franco-Swedish-Dutch couple, living in the Gard since 2002. Previously, we lived in the Paris region, and we also lived in the United States and in Africa.
We fell in love with Uzès and the department of Gard, and the small village of Aubussargues and the farmhouse that has become our family home.
After a few years of renovation work, we opened our guest house in 2009. A good dozen years later, we still have as much pleasure in welcoming you and helping you discover the beautiful destination of the Pays d'Uzès Pont du Gard.

Our guest house with swimming pool and garden is located 8 km from Uzès, in the heart of Aubussargues, a charming little village surrounded by vineyards, forest and scrubland, offering many hiking and mountain biking trails. From the house, you can easily cross the Pays d'Uzès and Gard, Hérault and Vaucluse. The region offers you a multitude of discoveries and activities, in all seasons, and we will be happy to advise and inspire you.

And if you stay in one of our bed and breakfast rooms, it is possible to dine in the evening, enjoying a good glass of local wine, or order a picnic basket for lunch, with fresh seasonal and local products, to be reserved 2 days before.

A little history

Le Mas des Sages is an old farmhouse dating from the 2nd half of the 18th century. The mas has been over the centuries a farm with horses, sheep and chickens, a winery and a silkworm. Then a family home, and now a guesthouse. We were told that in the 19th century, the owner of the mas and his neighbor and friend left Aubussargues on horseback, dagger at the side, for Smyrna, today called Izmir. Mildew having attacked the vines, a solution had to be found to support the families, and they went as far as Turkey to bring back silkworms.Several parts of the farmhouse have been transformed into silkworm farms to educate the silkworm. Our gîte for 4/5 people is also housed in one of these silkworm farms.

On the railing of the balcony of the inner courtyard, we can still see the initials of this adventurer in the wrought iron, a nice nod to a distant era. From the wine-growing era, there are also some remains, such as the large wine cistern under the shelter in the garden. And from the farm, the sheepfold where you can still see the troughs.

Despite the age of the mas, almost 3 centuries, we are only the 3rd owners, and we wanted to safeguard as much as possible the heritage and the spirit of the times that this building has gone through. We hope you will love our house, its authenticity and its atmosphere as much as we do!

To do in the surroundings

There are many hiking trails in the area, including the Gorges du Gardon, and you can also go for a walk or mountain bike directly from us. The Gardon and the Cèze offer aquatic activities such as canoeing and via ferrata, and of course swimming. Between equestrian centres, herds, golf courses, wine cellars, good little restaurants or gastronomy, the Pont du Gard , the Uzès market, the Haribo candy museum, the arenas and other monuments from the Roman era in Nîmes and Arles, the Palais des Papes in Avignon, ferias, votive celebrations, festivals and so much more, there is something to delight young and old alike.

In good weather, which we often have, you can enjoy the garden and relax. Or swim and laze by the pool, open from May to October, depending on the weather.

We will be delighted to welcome you to our home!
